Culinary Creations: Macy's to Stir up Latin Flavors at State Street this March

Macy's to host a series of culinary events in celebration of Floranova

In celebration of Floranova, the culinary scene at Macy's on State Street will be spiced with Latin flavor throughout the run of the flower show. From local chefs demonstrating their most popular dishes to special menu features at Macy's restaurants, March will certainly be an exciting time to experience food and fun at Macy's on State Street.

Here's a look at what's in-store:

Latino Marketplace
Friday, March 14 & 28, Lower Level, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Macy's will host a Latin-themed marketplace from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. with foods and wares representing various Latin countries. The marketplace will feature samples from local restaurants, including Adobo Grill, Fogo de Chão, and Mambo Grill; crafts from local artisans; and entertainment from local musicians and dancers, including Alma de Tango, a local Tango quartet who will both sing and dance for Macy's customers during the celebration. Customers will also enjoy the music of Spanish guitar duo Hector Fernandez and Tom Kimball who have performed together since 1994. Enjoy a lunch hour immersed in Latin culture at Macy's!

Meet Chef Freddy Sanchez from Adobo Grill
Thursday, March 20, Macy's on State Street, Culinary Kitchen, Lower Level, noon

Meet Chef Freddy Sanchez from Chicago's popular Adobo Grill as he demonstrates how to make Adobo's famous Guacamole and Ceviche. With locations in Wicker Park and Old Town, Adobo Grill is one of the leading authentic Mexican restaurants in the Chicago area. With an atmosphere and cuisine full of flavor and excitement, Adobo Grill is always muy caliente.

Meet Chef Rick Bayless
Friday, March 21, Macy's on State Street, Culinary Kitchen, Lower Level, noon

Join Chicago's award-winning chef-restaurateur, cookbook author, television personality and Macy's Culinary Council Chef Rick Bayless as he shares recipes and tips on authentic Mexican cooking. After sampling some of Rick's recipes and viewing our 2008 flower show, Floranova, make sure to stop by Frontera Fresco on Macy's 7th floor, the most recent addition to Rick's family of restaurants featuring authentic Mexican street food.

Frontera Fresco Special
March 13 - 30, 7 on State

Visit Rick Bayless' own Frontera Fresco and receive a 1.5 oz. bag of Frontera Tortilla Chips (yellow, blue or jalapeno) with any entrée.

Marketplace Specials
March 13 - 30, Lower Level Marketplace

Enjoy Latin flavors with two exciting additions to the marketplace menu from Macy's Culinary Council Chefs Elizabeth Brown and Rick Bayless. During the run of the show, the Marketplace will feature Elizabeth's Coconut Chicken Chopped Salad served with a ginger coconut dressing along with Rick's Vanilla Flan.

Walnut Room Specials
March 13 - 30, 7th floor Walnut Room

In celebration of Floranova, the Walnut Room will feature plantings of flowers and a 38-foot-high beanstalk in the center of the restaurant made of metal wire and fabric in a South Beach style. Macy's Culinary Council chefs have whipped up several Floranova-inspired creations for the restaurant that will be available on the menu from March through May. Macy's Culinary Council Chef Elizabeth Brown has created a fabulous shrimp guacamole along with a Cuban style Picadillo. Macy's will also feature Shrimp Fettuccine with Jalapeno Cream from famed local Chef Rick Bayless along with a Pork and Coconut Salad from Chef Tyler Florence.
